Hello fellow art quilting enthusiasts!
I am thrilled to share the exciting news of my recent triumph at the QuiltNSW 2023 Show. My art quilt, titled ‘She Matters,’ featuring a magnificent Rwandan mountain gorilla, not only won the hearts of the judges but also secured the prestigious Best of Show award.
Today, I want to take you on a quick journey of this days events.
I was sitting there at the award ceremony and all the award winners of the day had already been notified that they had won an award. So, no one knows what they have won of course, that’s the exciting part. I had won 1st in Pictorial Category (always happy with that) and then…my name is called again for Best in Stationary Machine Quilting!! YAY that’s extra special! Sitting there quite relaxed now, but ever so happy, just celebrating others collecting their hard earned awards. Then the one we’ve been waiting for ‘Best of Show’. Eagerly listening to Kaye Jamieson – President, making the announcements for all the awards (doing a fabulous job too) it’s here ‘Best of Show is…then my name is called! For She Matter’s OMG!!!! What just happened? Me? No way …could not believe it…. Well I must say never thought that would happen.
Bernadette Hoy – whom presented me with the ribbons certificates on behalf of Bernina Australia, QuiltNSW. She got the biggest hug from me!
Now at this time I just like to thank Bernina Australia for their continuing support with sponsorship of the shows in all the state guilds but I especially thank them for my prize a beautiful machine of Bernina 570.
I’d also like to thank the other sponsors for the prizes I received; they are, Blue Mountain Quilters, Stash Batik, Olfa, and Minijumbuk Nu-Wool Wadding.
Winning the Best of Show award at the QuiltNSW Guild Show with ‘She Matters’ has been an incredible honor. A testament to the power of art to convey important messages. Through this quilt, I hope to raise awareness about the endangered status of Mountain Gorillas. To inspire others to take action in preserving their natural habitat. Let us remember that every creature on this planet matters. It is our responsibility to protect and cherish them.
So glad I decided to fly up to Sydney for the day. Although very short I wished I could have stayed longer, but had the most memorable day. Thank you QuiltNSW.
